The advantage of tank mixes is greater efficiency compared with separate application. Firstly, they make it possible to fight against several harmful organisms. Secondly, using crop protection products this way reduces fuel consumption, reduces the load on machinery and the soil, and reduces the risk of mechanical damage to the crop.
"Water temperature is an important aspect of tank mix preparation. It should be in the range of 10-20°C. Some products dissolve poorly at a temperature of 4-5°C. If you take water from a well, you need to make a stock solution, i.e. dissolve the products separately, then add water, but in doing so their efficacy decreases to 20-50%," the Agro Department experts warn.
Also a very important parameter is the water pH. Many products work in a more alkaline solution, others in a neutral and an acidic one. And their formulation is able to raise or lower the water pH when mixing. The acid-base balance also needs to be taken into account, because impurities of saturated salts, in particular carbonate salts, can reduce the product's efficacy.
"For example, dry granular products in water-soluble packets. Such ones dissolve poorly at a temperature below 7°C. If in early spring water is taken from a well, i.e. from a depth at which the water is 2-3°C, and these packets are added, they clog the nozzles, which reduces the spraying quality manyfold," the specialists note.
Additional tips:
- Before preparing a tank mix, carefully read the instructions on the products' packaging.
- Carry out a compatibility test of the products before mixing them.
- Use clean water to prepare the tank mix.
- Regularly rinse the sprayer after use.
