The plastic and drought-tolerant mid-early sunflower hybrid LG 50541 CLP in the dry 2025 season, under the conditions of the Kharkiv region, provided from 2.2 to 3.1 t/ha. Whereas in the Mykolaiv region under rain-fed conditions — 1.6 t/ha, which is an excellent result given that 1 t/ha was the maximum indicator in the region last year due to drought and general non-observance of crop rotation.
This was reported by Denys Kanazirskyi, sunflower product manager of Limagrain Ukraine. Under the moist conditions of the Kyiv and Vinnytsia regions the hybrid LG 50541 CLP provided from 4.2 and 4.8 t/ha respectively. Denys Kanazirskyi says the potential in this hybrid manifests itself even under extreme conditions.
"If it gets into intensive conditions, it unlocks its potential to the maximum, that is, it has unlimited potential. That is, there are hybrids that even under good soil and climatic conditions do not form above 3.7-3.8 t/ha, whereas this one can reliably give more. And if conditions turn out worse, dry, then it also forms a decent yield. Its drought tolerance is provided by physiological traits that allow it to use moisture very economically and rationally," the specialist explained.
Since this is a mid-early hybrid, it does not need as much moisture as a mid-season or mid-late one, adds Denys Kanazirskyi. In addition, the hybrid has a fairly reduced leaf apparatus, which allows it to form the maximum yield under a moisture limit. A separate advantage is high tolerance to phoma and phomopsis, and to the seventh race of broomrape, which makes it possible to avoid the use of high doses of Euro-Lightning.
"The Kharkiv region suffers greatly from phoma and phomopsis, there are foci of these pathogens in the Poltava region too. In these regions the hybrid formed a yield of from 2.2 to 3.1 t/ha. In moist regions sclerotinia is present, and there this hybrid showed a yield of from 3.2 to 4.8 t/ha thanks to high tolerance to this disease. High genetic resistance to downy mildew of the MGP level makes it possible to start the sowing campaign with this hybrid, sowing it at early dates as soon as the soil temperature allows," the specialist added.
The sunflower hybrid LG 50541 CLP is exclusively available for purchase from LNZ Group.
