Frit flies attack winter wheat: how to protect the crops фото 1 LNZ GroupWhy are these pests dangerous?

  • They damage the shoots, which can lead to the death of young plants.
  • They are carriers of viral diseases, which cause significant yield losses.
  • The greatest damage is caused by the larvae: they penetrate inside the shoot, eat out the growing cone and the base of the central leaf, which turns yellow and dries up.

Especially vulnerable is wheat that came out of the winter late and is in the tillering phase, explain the specialists.

Why are there more of them?

  • The main causes of mass reproduction:
  • Uncontrolled volunteers.
  • Weed infestation of the fields with couch grass.
  • The absence of timely stubble skimming.
"At present the level of field colonisation by frit flies reaches 10-30%," note the experts.

How to protect the crops?

The best solution is systemic-action insecticides, which effectively destroy both the adult flies and the larvae:

Presto (clothianidin — 200 g/l + lambda-cyhalothrin — 50 g/l);

Octant-Turbo (thiamethoxam — 141 g/l + lambda-cyhalothrin — 106 g/l).

"These products provide reliable control and long protection of your crops!" summed up the company.
