While the central regions of Ukraine are suffering from a prolonged drought, the western ones are literally being flooded by rains. The situation is especially critical in the Lviv region.
This was reported in a comment for SuperAgronom.com by Serhii Uvarov, agri-technology development manager for the north-eastern and western region of LNZ Group.
Over the last two days, in certain districts record volumes of precipitation have been recorded: Yesterday — 46 mm, At night — 65 mm, Today by 19:00 a significant amount of rain is still expected.
In addition, the strong wind breaks the branches of trees, and the fields in places are completely flooded. Such weather conditions create serious risks for the future harvest.
Among the main threats:
- root rots,
- lodging of crops,
- waterlogging of crops.
Cereals are under a great threat — an excess of moisture against the background of elevated temperatures can lead to a rapid development of diseases and significant yield losses.
"For our part, we advise agricultural producers to carefully monitor the state of the fields and, if possible, to carry out fungicide protection after the weather stabilises.
At present we are actively analysing the situation in the regions and are ready to provide recommendations on reducing the risks," emphasised Serhii Uvarov.
At present there are reports that Lviv and the region have been flooded because of the downpour, as a result of which the Zubra river burst its banks.
