According to monitoring results in the eastern regions, sunflower is being actively colonized by onion thrips (tobacco thrips). This was reported by the agronomy department of LNZ Group. The specialists explained that this pest is especially active in dry and hot weather. It causes tissue discoloration, promotes increased moisture evaporation from the leaves and inhibits plant growth. «Tobacco thrips is easily confused with a plant bug and, accordingly, measures may be taken that will be less effective.
So we advise monitoring your crops and detecting the pest in time!», — the experts advise.
They also point out how to recognize signs of thrips infestation: the plant loses color, wilts and dries out;light spots of various sizes appear;
rapid ageing of the affected leaves and their drying.
LNZ Group agronomy department experts emphasize that at the first signs of thrips damage, plants should be treated with insecticides immediately:
- systemic and contact-stomach action Presto (clothianidin, 200 g/l + lambda-cyhalothrin, 50 g/l) at a rate of 0.3-0.4 l/ha,
or
- contact-stomach action Bombardyr Duo (imidacloprid, 300 g/l lambda-cyhalothrin, 100 g/l) at a rate of 0.15-0.25 l/ha.
