The hairy chafer is spreading en masse through the Dnipropetrovsk region

In the fields of the Dnipropetrovsk region a large surge of the hairy chafer is currently observed. The danger is that it damages the flowers on the plants, and therefore pollination does not occur at all. Thus, farmers will not obtain a harvest.

This was related to AgroPortal.ua by the technology development manager in the South-eastern region of LNZ Group Serhii Korniushenko.

"Today both apple orchards and rapeseed crops are under threat, these plants are currently flowering at the same time. The DEFENDA brand has the product Synerid, which solves this problem. At a rate of 0.4 l/ha it is applied during flowering. The product is completely safe for bees, it can be used both on apple and on rapeseed."

The specialist adds that, whereas on rapeseed, on the lower tier, flowers may yet appear later, the apple is already flowering profusely today. Therefore it is very important to fight the pest, since with mass damage by the hairy chafer one can lose up to 30-40% of the rapeseed harvest, and on apple — even up to 50%.
